Cameroon launched an incredible comeback to clinch third place in the AFCON third-place playoff after a scary 70 minutes that saw the Burkina Faso lads take a 3-0 lead against the host country.
Cameroon came from a 3-0 deficit to level at 3-3 against Burkina Faso before winning a penalty shootout by a 5-3 penalty scoreline to finish third at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The third goal and equalizer by the captain of the side at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo for Yaoundé sent the home fans screaming as their hope of getting their hands on a compensating bronze was brought to life.
Burkina Faso silenced the home crowd in the 24th minute with a goal by Steeve Yago. This was followed by a 43rd-minute own Goal by André Onana the Cameroonian goalkeeper which gave Burkina Faso 2 lead. The Burkinabe onslaught continued in the second half and in the 49th Minute the third goal that broke the hearts of many Cameroonians was scored by Djibril Ouattara for Burkina Faso through a header from a Bertrand Traoré across into the 18th-yard box.
The Burkinabe went 3-0 up through Steve Yago’s poked finish, Andre Onana’s own goal, and Djibril Ouattara’s header.

Three goals down, no one gave Cameroon a dog’s chance but the team never gave up and kept pushing for a goal. Cameroon launched an incredible comeback in Africa’s football history 20 minutes to the end of the game to clinch third place in Afcon 2021 on home soil.

It was a disappointing end for Burkina Faso, who looked in total control after 49 minutes, but five-time winners Cameroon responded superbly before converting all five of their spot-kicks.
Cameroon’s incredible comeback and roaring on the field helped them to clinch a well-deserved third place in 2021 Afcon.
