Hearts of Oak beat Elmina Sharks in a marathon penalty shootouts to cruise into the quarter final
Hearts of Oak given a very tedious task but managed to sail through with a 10-9 win on penalties after a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time to advance into the quarter final of the MTN FA Cup.
The ‘Phobians’ with a very dangerous start here after having a corner kick in less than a minute from kickoff, Sulley Muntari launched in a deep one which met Isaac Mensah’s head but was gathered calmly by Joseph Essam.
The Sharks looked really dull having made no any dangerous attempts on goal leaving the Hearts backline virtually on holiday especially in the opening minutes of the game.
Hearts of Oak given a free kick at a very good position after Obeng Jnr was brought down just on the edge of the box. Salim Adams went in for a power but was parried out nicely once again by Joseph Essam for a wasted corner kick.

The visitors appealed for a penalty after Isaac Donkor went down in the box, he was subsequently given a yellow card for diving.

The champions begun to press really hard, having taken the game on their opponents, firing from all cylinders to restore their lead.
Sulley Muntari inside the 57th minute, launched in a thunderbolt of a strike from a long range but missed the post by some few inches.
Hearts of Oak again pushed themselves in another break, skipper Fatawu Mohammed delivered a great cross to pick up Patrick Razak but his execution was very poor to put his side in front again.
On the 77th minute, the Fearsome Sharks astonishingly scored again to snatch the lead for the first time in the game. Who else? Ishmael Antwi who scored to mark his brace of the night.
Just and when the Sharks thought they were winning, Patrick Razak was brought down in the for a penalty. Kofi Kordzi stepped and converted nicely to get Hearts of Oak back on level.
The game ended 2-2 after ten minutes of additional.
Hearts of Oak cruised to the quarter final after winning 10-9 on penalties.
