The 2022 World Cup kicks off today in Qatar at 4 PM (GMT). Qatar plays Ecuador in the opening game tonight.
HEAD TO HEAD
Qatar has faced Ecuador on three previous occasions, all of which were friendly matches. The two faced each other twice in the year 1996 with the first match finishing 1-1 and the second won by the South American nation, Ecuador. They won 2-1.
The year 2018, was their final match, in which Qatar won 4-3.
Qatar won its first major continental tournament, the Asian Cup, in 2019, defeating Japan 3-1 in the final.
Ecuador will be competing in their fourth World Cup – they previously took part in the 2002, 2006, and 2014 Mundial.
