Who is Alejandro Garnacho? Everything you need to know about Manchester United’s next big star
Alejandro Garnacho is only 18 years old, but he is already seen as a big star at Manchester United.
On May 11, 2022, in Manchester, England, Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United watches the FA Youth Cup Final between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford. The game was between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.
Alejandro Garnacho is the latest young Red Devil to follow in a long line of young players.
The club has a long history of having players from their academy on the bench, going back to before the First World War. So, every time a new player comes in, people are curious to see who will be the next Charlton, Giggs, Beckham, or Scholes.
Who is Garnacho?
He is 18 years old and is expected to be one of the best players in the world one day.
Alejandro Garnacho moved from Atletico Madrid to the Manchester United Academy in October 2020. The 20-time English champions paid about £400,000 to get the Spaniard. That’s not a lot of money compared to some transfer fees, but it’s a lot when you consider that he was only 16 and had never played in a senior game before.
The next summer, Garnacho signed his first contract with the Premier League, and the next year, he would be the star of the Red Devils youth team.
In February 2022, he was nominated for the club’s Goal of the Month because of a great solo effort in an FA Youth Cup win over Everton. After being named as an unused substitute for Premier League games against Norwich City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, he made his senior debut in the 91st minute of a 1-1 draw against Chelsea last season.
In May 2022, Garnacho scored twice in the final against Nottingham Forest to help United win the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2011.
At the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season, he changed his shirt number from 75 to 49. After coming on as a substitute against Brighton, Brentford, and Real Sociedad, the teenager made his first senior start for United in a 3-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol.
Garnacho can play for both Spain and Argentina because his mother is from Argentina, and he was born in Madrid. He played three times for La Roja’s under-18 team before Lionel Scaloni called him up to the Argentina senior team as part of a 44-person squad for two World Cup qualifiers in March of this year.
He didn’t play, but he has played for the Albicelestes’ under-20 team.
Garnacho is a right-footed left-winger who has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. On Transfermarkt, he is worth about £4.5 million.
