Todd VanDerwerken was instrumental in launch of new Omaha-area youth sports site.
Webmaster of the Week: September 1-7
NAME
Todd VanDerwerken
SITE
Bellevue Junior Sports Association
POSITION
Webmaster
BACKGROUND
A self-described “Techie Guy,” VanDerwerken lives in Omaha, Neb., and works as a consulting systems engineer for St. Louis-based World Wide Technology. He has a son, 11-year-old Tyler, actively involved in sports in the Omaha suburb of Bellevue. So who better than VanDerwerken to recruit as the webmaster of the Bellevue Junior Sports Association’s new site?
WHAT HE DOES
One of VanDerwerken’s first tasks in getting the new BJSA site built was providing photographs that could be used in the banner and as background images. See that catcher embedded in the right side of the banner? The one making the tag at home plate? And check out the No. 32 football player with an abundance of helmet stickers. Yep, both of those players just happen to be young Tyler VanDerwerken in action. After setting up the pages, VanDerwerken assigned edit permissions to the BJSA’s football coaches, who have done a good job of loading their rosters and other team information. VanDerwerken emptied his bag of tricks (and used most every page element known to Sport Ngin) in setting up the 2015 11U Bruins baseball page. He’s currently working on ensuring the registration is ready for volleyball.
MAKING HIS MARK
VanDerwerken’s tireless website work and infectiously positive attitude has truly been an inspiration, given that the throat cancer he was diagnosed with in 2012 returned in July, and he has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments since.
