Portugal VS Switzerland: Why Ronaldo Shouldn’t Start Against Switzerland
Portugal made it to the second round of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup by finishing first in Group G. They beat Ghana, drew South Korea, and won Uruguay to top the group.
Even though they lost their last game to Korea, the Seleccao still won the group.
Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Portugal, is one of the best players in the tournament, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations since the tournament started a month ago.
In Portugal’s first group game, against Ghana, the player who used to play for Manchester United scored from the penalty spot. Ronaldo hasn’t been playing as well as he did last season and hasn’t been able to make a difference in games.
In Portugal’s last group game, Ronaldo had a terrible game. He missed easy chances and helped Korea score an equalizer in a strange way.
Ronaldo should not start against Switzerland in the round of 16 because of how he played in Portugal’s first three games.
The Seleccao need to win to move on to the next round, and their captain hasn’t been playing well lately, so Fernando Santos should put him on the bench.
The former Real Madrid star should be replaced by AC Milan striker Rafael Leao in the starting lineup. The 22-year-old striker was faster and had a better eye for the goal than the captain of Portugal.
