Ottmar Hitzfeld lauds Black Stars assistant coach prospect Ibrahim Tanko
Former Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld has lauded the contribution of Ex-Ghana star Ibrahim Tanko in Dortmund’s 1994/95 Bundesliga triumph
The 71-year-old tactician who was then coach of the Signal Iduna outfit recalls how Ibrahim Tanko and Lars Ricken, who were still in their formative years stepped up when his squad was hit with injuries.
Hitzfeld highlighted the importance of the duo to the title triumph and praised their ability to deal with all that pressure at such a young age.
“1994/95 is still very present because it was an up and down for me, for all of Dortmund, a roller coaster of emotions. I have never experienced the many setbacks that we had before, and I never experienced them as a coach afterward” the gaffer said in an interview with a German news portal.
“With the bad luck of injury alone: Povlsen, who was an important player, a driver, has been out since autumn. In the final sprint, Chapuisat, who was always a guarantee for important games, dropped out afterward with Kalle Riedle. No other team could have put up with that” he noted.
