Four top European coaches apply to be considered as new Black Stars Coach
There is the need for a new Black Stars Coach after the dismissal of Charles Akonnor as coach of the team. Reports indicated that four well-known European coaches have submitted their CVs to be evaluated for the vacant job of Ghana national team coach following the dismissal of Charles Akonnor.
Charles Akonnor was sacked for poor performance. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is seeking a new Black Stars Coach to replace the Ghanaian former player and sacked coach of the team.
Coach Francesco Guidolin who coached Stephen Appiah at Udinese and Andre Ayew at Swansea City.
is one of the early candidates seeking to be the new Black Stars Coach. Others interested in the vacant Black Stars coaching job are
Lucien Favre, the former Borussia Dortmund coach, and Domènec
Torrent and Alain Giresse, a Frenchman with a wealth of expertise on the African continent.
They are all among the first to submit their CVs to the GFA once the decision to name a coach within three days was made. As a result of Akonnor’s dismissal, the four coaches are trying to convince the GFA to give them the position. The three-man committee will begin its work today.
Ghana’s Black Stars are attracting high-caliber coaches, but the wage may be an issue if Ghana requires a high-caliber coach.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Favre, 63, is a Swiss professional football coach and former player.
He was a playmaker for a number of Swiss and French teams, as well as the Swiss national team. Servette’s longest player, he won the title.
As a successful manager, Favre led Servette and Zurich to the Swiss Cup title.
As well as Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha BSC in Germany, he was also in charge of the club.
Also interested in the Black Stars position is Torrent, a 59-year-old former assistant to Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
To begin with, Torrent worked for Pep Guardiola’s FC Barcelona B team as an analytical assistant.
Tornadoes were promoted to the third level, while the first team’s coach was promoted to Guardiola. In May 2008, Torrent took on the same job.
He followed Guardiola to FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City, where he continued to work with the Spaniard. For eleven years, they won 24 awards together.
On his return to the top job, Torrent has been named the coach of Major League Soccer’s New York City Football Club (NYCFC). He took over for Patrick Vieira, who was injured.
Flamengo, a member of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, announced the signing of Torrent on July 31, 2020. When Atletico Mineiro beat them away from home, he was sacked four months into his contract.
Guidolin, a former Italian footballer and manager of Swansea City in the Premier League, is 65 years old and has been in the game for almost 30 years.
Stephen Appiah, who played for Udinese and Parma, and Andre Ayew, who played for Swansea, are two of his former players.
The former Vicenza coach coached various Italian clubs in Serie A and won the 1996-97 Coppa Italyalia with Vicenza in his first season.
Vicenza, Udinese, Bologna, Palermo, and Monaco all compete in European tournaments under Guidolin. He is also the manager of Ligue 1 team Monaco.
In addition to working in Africa and with France, the 69-year-old has extensive expertise in the Middle East. As well, he was in command of the Georgian squad and the Toulouse team.
Mali manager for 2010 African Cup of Nations, Giresse previously coached Gabon’s national football team.
He was Senegal’s national football coach from 2013 to January 2015.
He resigned as Mali’s national team coach on September 7, 2017.
In December 2017, he was named as the new manager of the Benin national soccer team. For the national position in Cameroon, he was one of 77 applicants.
The first top assignment for the new Black Stars Coach will be to qualify the team for the 2022 world cup. The team has played two games so far and has won one and lost the other.

As of December 13th, 2018, Giresse was named Tunisia’s manager. In August of this year, he announced his resignation.
