Five goalkeepers who could get call up for Ghana, Nigeria clash
The two West African countries will face off in March 2022, with the first match taking place in Cape Coast on Friday, March 25. The second leg will take place four days later in Abuja.
Ghana, under by interim coach Otto Addo, will want to avenge a dismal showing at the African Cup of Nations by defeating the Super Eagles.
In the second week of March, Addo is likely to release a large Black Stars squad. There could be four goalkeepers on the team.
The following are five goalkeepers who could make the cut.
Jojo Wollacott is a character in the film Jojo Wollacott
Wollacott appears to be the Black Stars’ primary choice. He took over for the injured Richard Ofori and was in charge of all three of Ghana’s games in the 2021 AFCON.
With a save rate of 77 percent, the Swindon Town goalkeeper has kept two clean sheets in his last two outings.
With his recent form, Wollacott’s prospects of making the Nigerian team are very good.
Attah Richard
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was named to the Black Stars’ final squad for the AFCON, but he did not play as the team was eliminated at the group stage.
In recent call-ups, Richard Attah has been a frequent component of the team. Since returning from the Cameroon competition, he has maintained his standard.
Heart’s Attah was excellent once again in their 0-0 tie with arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, making five key stops.
With the forthcoming doubleheader against Nigeria, the 26-year-old could keep his place in the Black Stars.
Razak Abalora
During the winter transfer window of 2022, the former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper joined Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova.
The Moldovan top flight is currently on hiatus, with the second leg scheduled to begin in March.
However, the team is in the Europa League, and after defeating Braga 2-0 in the first leg of their round 32 matchup, they are trying to qualify for the last 16.
Abalora could receive a call up if he gets game time in the Moldovan league’s second round, which begins soon.
Joseph Anang
Joseph Anang is a young Ghanaian goalkeeper who now plays for Sevenage FC in the English League Two.
The former West Ham United goalkeeper has started all 18 games for the club. The goalie, who is 21 years old, last played for the team in December 2021.
Richard Kingston, the Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer, has picked Anang as one of the shot stoppers he is keeping an eye on.
“I’m monitoring about fifteen (15) goalkeepers for Ghana, some of them are in Africa, like Mutawakilu Seidu of West Ham United and a lot of others,” he told Hot FM.
Ibrahim Danlad
Since taking up the first slot after Abalora’s departure, the ex-Ghana under 20 deputy captain has been fantastic for Asante Kotoko.
In eight appearances for the League leaders, he has five clean sheets.
The 19-year-old could also be given an all-up for his outstanding performance.
