Mohammed Kudus Explains his New Goal Celebration
Mohammed Kudus has explained the meaning behind his trademark West Ham goal celebration and it may surprise some.
When West Ham managed to sign Mohammed Kudus for just £38m from Ajax in the summer, any regular observers of the Dutch league knew they’d got a steal.
Explaining to the media, he said, contrary to what many people think, his goal celebration does not really mean anything. The 23-year-old has made a great start to life in the Premier League since swapping Ajax Amsterdam for East London last summer.
The Ghana star was being chased by some of Europe’s top clubs and was genuinely wanted by both Chelsea and Arsenal.
The star boy has hit the ground running in east London, starting at West Ham as he’d he left off at Ajax.
The 23-year-old has been doing so well for the Hammers he is already making a celebration his own after scoring.
You all know it by now, Kudus puts the ball in the net then makes his way over to the advertising hoardings and takes a seat facing the pitch with thousands of fans in raptures behind him.
But what’s it all about, what is the inspiration, thinking and meaning behind it?
Now Kudus has explained the meaning behind his trademark West Ham goal celebration.
And it may surprise many.
Because, he says holding back laughter, it doesn’t have any meaning! And it all started as he sat to take a rest the first time he did it.
Obviously when you get to this level people try to read deeper meanings to it,” Kudus said in an interview on the club’s official website.
“(But) this don’t mean anything bro!,” he added laughing.
“I’m just taking a deep breath, it means nothing to me, I’m just sitting down to take a deep breath.
“Yea you know (from working hard in the game).”
It’s actually quite refreshing to hear it’s not something that’s choreographed or designed for attention.
A far cry from a lot of what we see in the football world nowadays.
What a player, what a guy.
