Christian Pulisic brace pushes Chelsea back to top 4
Christian Pulisic
Chelsea moves to 4th on the table after a 4-1 win at Selhurst park today. Pulisic and Havertz got Chelsea the lead in the first 10 minutes and Zouma added up before the break.
In the 63rd minute, Christian Benteke pulled one back for the Eagles. Christian Benteke has been directly involved in nine goals in his last 11 Premier League appearances against Chelsea (7 goals, 2 assists). Against no side has the Belgian scored more PL goals than he has versus Chelsea (7 – level with Sunderland).
Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jordan Ayew comes off and are replaced by James and Andrew Townsend for Chelsea and Palace respectively. A low cross from Reece James was deflected and Christian Pulisic slot home the 4th goal for the Blues
Havertz really should have had two, maybe three today as another fine quickfire passing move from Ziyech release the German in behind the Palace back line, but his low effort was tame and smothered by the Palace stopper.
Kai Havertz was the top man for the blues today and he delivered splendid. He bagged home a goal and an assist and had a lot of praise from one of Premier Leagues greatest Pundit
“I was one of those that was waiting to see this from Havertz. As an attacking player, it was a delight for me to see the things he did today – he should have scored more but he’s got a goal and an assist today, and that will be good for his confidence.” Shaun Wright
Havertz, after the match:
“I’m happy – I think the most important thing is that we won after the 5-2 defeat. We could have scored more goals but we can be happy. In my position you want to score. Today I got some changes and I thought I could score one or two more. I like the position is good for me – I have the freedom to go wherever I want”
The Chelsea gaffer. Tuchel also has his part to share:
“Everything was bad against West Brom. The result was horrible but the stats were not as bad. Today we were very hungry, full of confidence and wanted to play a very aggressive game in terms of high recoveries. We were totally focused. It was good with the attitude today. It’s a part of our DNA to be aggressive and should be. We showed that today”
