5 players who can replace Mohammed Salah in 2023
Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the world at the moment.
The Egyptian has had an incredible season bar the recent games in which he has not been at his best.
His ruthless goal scoring nature has been one of the critical elements that has helped define the Klopp era, but with recent happenings, Liverpool would have to prepare without him.
News broke yesterday from reputable transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano that the Liverpool star has “no intention” of accepting the Reds’ current new contract offer, presenting a huge opportunity for him to leave as a free agent at the end of his deal next year.
It, thus, wouldn’t be a bad idea for Liverpool to start preparing for life without the prolific winger.
Besides, having won both the Champions League and Premier League titles with the Reds, the Egyptian could be tempted to take on a new challenge elsewhere.
He is unlikely to have a dearth of suitors, with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid reportedly interested in his services.
The Reds certainly won’t be short of options in case they wish to prepare for life without Salah.
Should they decide to sign a replacement for the 29-year-old anytime soon, they should be looking at the five names mentioned below.
#5 Raphinha
Raphinha is certainly one of the options Liverpool would have to consider to replace Mohammed Salah if he left in 2023.
The Brazilian has been Leeds’ main man in a struggling season that has seen them battling to stay up in the Premier League just after two years of returning.
Raphinha’s reputation has further been enhanced by his impressive outings for the a star studded Brazilian national team.
The player was linked with a switch to Anfield during the summer transfer window and Liverpool midfielder Fabinho couldn’t hide his admiration for the Portuguese as he commented on the speculation linking the attacker with the Reds.
“Raphinha, since arriving in the Premier League, has been performing and standing out very well at Leeds,” Fabinho was quoted as saying.
There are also reports that he could be available for as low as £15-20million if his club gets relegated and could be a huge bargain for Liverpool.
But the Reds will certainly have to fight off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich for his signature.
#4 Federico Chiesa
Federico Chiesa is one of the most talented wingers in world football currently and a player who could replace Mohammed Salah at Liverpool.
The Italian player made headlines throughout the Euros as he put in amazing performances en route to his country winning the tournament.
However, his season was ended prematurely after he suffered an ACL injury earlier in the year.
Juve announced the injury, saying Chiesa felt a “blunt trauma sprain” in his left knee, later saying it was an ACL injury.
The club has already signed Vlahovic as his replacement and based on how quickly the Serbian has settled in, it remains to be seen whether Chiesa will have a role in the team when he does return.
There is thus the possibility for Chiesa to leave the club and with his bursting speed and clinical nature in front of goal, Liverpool would have to consider him as a replacement for Salah.
Chiesa is also just 24 years and has more years to play for the club.
#3 Paulo Dybala
The Argentine has been linked with a move to Liverpool for several years and perhaps, there could not have been a better time for a move to materialize than this.
Dybala has doubts about his future in Turin. According to reports, he is convinced that Juventus no longer want him at the Allianz Stadium and his agent could listen to offers from other clubs shortly.
The player is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any other team and there are many clubs in Europe interested in securing his services with the likes of Inter, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona and Manchester City could make their move for La Joya.
Dybala could certainly be a great replacement for Salah at Liverpool, but there are school of thoughts which believe that his best years are behind him.
#2 Ousmane Dembele
Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele is another player who could replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. In fact, reports have linked the Reds with a potential swoop for the winger over recent years.
The Frenchman is one of the most talented young forwards in Europe at the moment.
With his sheer pace, dribbling skills, creativity and goalscoring instincts, there’s no doubt he’s got what it takes to shine at Liverpool.
The fact that he can play on either wing as well as behind the centre-forward would give Klopp more options.
Dembele’s current contract with Barcelona runs out in the summer and has failed to renew with the club, despite several talks.
Several reports have linked with a move to Chelsea and a reunion with former boss Thomas Tuchel but with Chelsea sanctioned from transferring players, the window of opportunity is wide open to make a deal.
#1 Kylian Mbappe
It is an open secret that Kylian Mbappe is trying to force a move away from Paris Saint-Germain.
The attacker is determined to end his association with the Ligue 1 giants very soon. That means Liverpool could fancy a shot at securing his services, even though Real Madrid currently lead the race.
The Frenchman would be a decent replacement for Mohamed Salah. His speed, electrifying dribbling skills and eye for goal could render him a huge threat to opposition defenders in the Premier League.
He would also be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s fast-paced system at Anfield.
