International Friendly: Ghana beats Qatar 5-1 to redeem image
The Ghana Black Stars have recorded their first win under Charles Akonnor as manager of the side as Ghana beats Qatar 5-1.
The win is a bounce-back success for the team after it lost to Mali in its first friendly game in the last 72 hours. This win may be a morale booster to the team after the poor outing in the 3-0 game with Mali.
Ghana beats Qatar 5-1 – How it happened
The Black Stars drew first blood in the first half after scoring, but this was canceled by the Qatar National team before the end of the first half.
The emphatic style with which the Asian champions were thrashed on Monday at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey by the Black Stars, is no news in many fans who were expecting a better outing against Mali.
In the second half of the game, the Black Stars played with more purpose and seriousness and pushed the game just a notch higher, pinning their opponent to their own half.
Thomas Partey’s pass in the 65th minute found Samuel Owusu who finished well. The Maroons of Qatar took the game to the black stars hoping to spoil the party but Ayews 83rd minute brace dashed their hopes. Caleb Ekuban found the net in the 85th minute just after been introduced into the game

This win would make the new coach of the Side, Charles Akonnor breath a sigh of relief but this win would not be enough for the teaming Black Star fans home and abroad to believe the team is solid enough.
The next all-important game for the team is the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Sudan in November. That game will be the first real test for the new coach of Ghana’s National Team and the new team the nation is putting together to help it qualify for the African football Mundial.
