The Black Stars qualified for the 9th straight AFCON after drawing 1-1 with South Africa but Ghana’s target in the last two AFCONs has been to ay their hands on the trophy once more.

The country has not won a major trophy at the senior national team level since 1982. Being in the competition for the teaming fans of the Black stars is worth nothing if they can not play above themselves and win the Trophy.

The Ghana Black Stars managed by a former player and captain, C.K. Akonor seems a pale shadow of themselves. The team can boast of top players including Andre Ayew, Ashimeru, Jordan, Kudus, and Thomas Partey of Arsenal.

For many fans back home in Ghana, the  Black Stars have failed to impress even though the nation’s biggest sports budget is directed towards them. They get big bonuses, and all the attention yet, they cannot lay hands on just one piece of silverware.

Support for the team has dwindled over the years after their fiasco at Brazil hosted world cup and they have degenerated bit by bit till now.

Big budget than the amount of winner of the tournament; Get high bonuses than the rest contingents, bottle the silverware & give us our routine false hope

“We gonna win the next tournament” has been the promise of the side since 2006 if Blackstars was a business, it’ll windup now.

Honestly, the team is very weak now. Ghana must pray for a BIG miracle in this AFCON if not an early exit is a likely outcome.

The entire team must be ready to give nothing but a Trophy; the right players must be called for the project to win the AFCON. Players called up from local and foreign leagues must be justified. Call-ups should be based on their ability of the players to and nothing else.
