Cancelo Leaves Man City for Saudi side Al Hilal
Joao Cancelo the Portugal international full-back leaves Man City to join Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. Manchester City has finalized the sale of Cancelo, who previously had loan spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona. He had not played for City since the first half of the 2022/23 season.
Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have completed the signing of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.
City maintained Cancelo could leave the club in the summer for the right price, having not been involved since the first half of the 2022/23 campaign, and the full-back will now continue his career in the Middle East.
The fee is over £21m (€25m).
“I would like to wish everyone at City continued success in the future,” Cancelo told City’s official website.
“I had many very special moments during my time here at this great club. I would like to thank my teammates, the coaches, all the staff at City and the fans for everything during my time here.”
The Portugal international spent last season on loan at Barcelona where he played 32 LaLiga and made a further 10 appearances in the Champions League.
Barcelona were interested in retaining Cancelo but was not able to put together a deal satisfactory for all parties.

Cancelo spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Bayern Munich where he made 21 appearances in all competitions.
The 30-year-old had just under three years remaining on his City contract.
When does the summer transfer window close?
The 2024 summer transfer window officially closes on August 30 at 11 pm UK time in the Premier League and 11.30 pm in Scotland.
The Premier League has brought forward Deadline Day to link up with the other major leagues in Europe. The closing dates were set following discussions with the leagues in England, Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
Clubs can complete deals after the deadline passes if they have submitted a deal sheet to the Premier League. The deal sheet allows a club to confirm a deal has been agreed upon and allows for additional time to submit any outstanding documents.
When did the 2024/25 season start?
The Premier League season began on August 17, meaning the window will remain open for the first two weeks of the campaign. The final round of games will take place on May 25, 2025.
The EFL season began a week earlier on the weekend of August 10/11.
The Scottish Premiership campaign got underway before both the Premier League and EFL with the first matches on August 3/4, while the final round of matches takes place on May 17/18, 2025.
